Sharon's Background

Sharon Laughlin is a professional actress who has acted on Broadway, Off-Broadway, and many regional theaters, including Portland Center Stage.

She grew up in Sherman County, Oregon. She returned to the Northwest about 20 years ago and is very happy to be involved with community theater in the gorge.

She studied the Delsarte acting technique from her beloved teacher, Niels Millers, and is thrilled to be able to pass this wisdom on to others.

The Delsarte Acting Technique

The Delsarte method of acting, pioneered by François Delsarte in the 19th century, revolutionized theatrical performance by emphasizing the connection between physical expression and emotional authenticity.

Unlike traditional acting approaches, Delsarte's method focused on the natural gestures and postures of the human body as reflections of inner feelings and intentions.

Through systematic study of body movements, facial expressions, and vocal techniques, actors could convey a character's emotions with precision and depth. Delsarte's teachings influenced generations of performers and laid the groundwork for modern theories of embodiment and psychophysical acting.
